We have Site Reports!
updated by rck, 2006-05-07

In the business-world, they are loved and hated at the same time. Reports with a hundred pages each, in very short intervals. They can overwhelm you. But with the right granularity, you can get insights you won't be able to obtain in a different way.

I've implemented automated reports for kiesler.at. In the first instance, there will be three reports sent as one new thread in the forum. Every moth, this report will be generated automatically by the user "system".

Where do you put them?

The reports are written automatically into the Administrative Forum on this very site. My crontab is set so it would start work on it on the first of every month, at about 2am local time. It should finish at 2.30am the latest. To mark the automated report as such, I've created a new user "system" for it. You can already look at the first report, it is the Site Report for April, 2006.

What kind of reports?

Right now, I've enabled three reports. Three is a good number that is easy to handle. Every report is limited to entries, so in overall it should give nice results.

  • Top-10 posters this month
  • 10 most replies this month
  • Top 10 User Loyality this month

Below every heading, you can find a short description of the reports. They show up the 10 most active forum-posters, the 10 threads with the most answers that started this month and who's been logged in to this site most often.

Take the challenge?

So, you want to score high? Easy. To get into the Top-10 posters report, reply to all kind of threads or, even better, start new ones. While I don't like spam and will delete / hide it (=won't be counted), you can post about everything else that comes to your mind.

You can tell about your favorite food, favorite music, about yourself, ask web-master related questions, inform about phpWebSite, talk about web strategies, etc. etc. -- it's totaly up to you

Scoring in the Top 10 User Loyality report is even easier than that. Just look at kiesler.at every day while being logged in. That's it -- up goes your score.

Last but not least: To make your favorite thread show up in the 10 most replies report, just reply to it and discuss it with others.
